Weekly Update #26 – Getting Demo Ready

Marshall/ June 2, 2018/ Cryo

Hello everyone!

We’ve been trying to put together a single-player demo for Cryo for a while now, and this week was our target. Unfortunately we didn’t quite make it.

There’s a saying in game dev that goes “The last 20% is 80% of the work”, and it definitely feels that way. I think the issue is that it’s hard to accurately estimate how much work is actually left to do. In my experience every time I think I’m almost done I stumble into a unseen rabbit hole of incomplete features and unanticipated complications.

That’s a long way of saying we’re still new to this, and we still have a lot to learn. We’re now aiming for a demo next week, but the first thing we need to do is make an exhaustive list of features we want in the demo and try our best to schedule those out.

With all that being said I’m still very optimistic about our progress these last few weeks! It’s nice to see systems and assets coming together to start feeling like a real game. Hopefully we’ll be able to share a playable version of the game with more of you soon!

Thanks for checking in with us again this week, and we’ll see you all next Saturday!
